Although I do consider channel surfing as one of my most frequented mindless activities, I have found a certain love for the t.v. show Lost. I kind of made a conscious decision that I didn't want to waste my time following very many serialized shows, and that most shows were not worth watching anyway. Luckily, a few years ago Cari rented the first few disks of the first season of Lost and we were hooked. It's kind of exciting knowing that I never really know what is going on, and that searching motivates me to watch each week in hopes that the secrets will reveal themselves.
In hopes of understanding things better, I listen to a few great Lost podcasts (one from the producers and one from a few guys out in North Carolina) and discuss some of the developments with family and friends. I've never really seen a show that elicits such conversation and community - it's great.
The latest episode revealed that the island has properties which allow time travel. Although the book I just posted about, The Fabric of the Cosmos, pretty much rules out time travel to the past as a realistic possibility, I think it will be interesting to see what theories they invoke to explain the science and mythology behind the island and the characters.
Other things I've found which give me headaches, but which are too fun to quit:
- Racquetball
- Caffeine
- Staying up way too late (mild insomnia I think)
- Reading webpages (CNN, fandango, etc.) on my Blackberry
