It has been known for some time now that the Mormon church teaches that the Native Americans came from Jerusalem hundreds of years ago. According to the current understanding of DNA evidence though the Native Americans, as had been assumed by anthropologists and scientists for some time it appears, seem to have originated from Asia. LDS members argue that the DNA data is being interpreted incorrectly. Although I have taken some college courses on genetics and genetic recombination I am not knowledgeable enough to have an opinion either way on what is reality in this area - it's just something that piques my interest. Science, religion, opinion. What could be more intriguing?
