I hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day.
I am in the process of reading Eckhart Tolle's "A New Earth" and have been thoroughly impressed with the writing and content. The book gets a little bogged down in the middle when it starts talking about "pain-bodies" and becomes a little repetitive, but the message of the book is outstanding.
I have often wondered what the human species is evolving toward, and Eckhart is the first person I have read who explains clearly what it means to evolve into a higher state of consciousness. Of course, the LDS church has taught about evolution into higher consciousness (godhood) for some time now, but relies on a far-reaching event (judgement and eventual perfection) as an explanation. Eckhart's perspective is one in which a higher consciousness is already within us, we just need to remove the gunk and roadblocks holding us back. This resonates more closely with my heart.
The core concepts of this book are very similar to another great spiritual tranformation work called "The Four Agreements" written by Don Miguel Ruiz. He wrote an entire series on overcoming the negative thought patterns we carry with us and being able to embrace each moment in its spiritual purity. If you haven't read it yet, I highly recomment it. I would recommend reading "The Voice of Knowledge" first followed by "The Four Agreements" although they were written in reverse. The Voice of Knowledge provides a good framework for eliminating our story-based sense of self, and the The Four Agreements provides mechanisms to eliminate negative thoughts.
Happy reading!
